VETERAN’S AFFAIRS COMMISSION
REGULAR MEETING MINUTES

  • Call to Order – Chair Bernie Corona called the regular meeting of the Veteran’s Affairs Commission to order at 7:02 pm on March 7, 2011 in Town Council Chambers.

B.      Roll Call –
PRESENT: Bernie Corona, Kirk Allison Mary-Ann Roczynski, J. Roger Pelletier, Paul Barry, Stan deMello
ABSENT: Dominic Fulco, Sr., Linda Carrasquillo.   

  • Approval of Minutes – Motion to accept the minutes from February 7, 2011 by Mary-Ann seconded by J. Roger.  Motion carried.  
  • Old Business  
  • Headstone Cleaner Update – Paul found out the name and distributor for the headstone cleaner.  The name of the cleaner is Daybreak and it is distributed by Certified Labs.  Paul has been in contact with them.  They will be sending him the MSDS sheets.  Approximate cost is $827 for the drum.  Commission discussed ways to pay for the cleaner, where it could be stored, and sharing the info with other organizations.  Paul will give another update at the next meeting.
  • Congressman Larson Breakfast – Kirk and Bernie attended the breakfast with Congressman Larson at Triple A Diner in February. Congressman spoke of getting trying to get veterans a smart card for pharmacy purchases when they are unable to get to the VA.
  • New Business  
  • Resignation – Stan deMello gave his resignation to the chair.  Due to his new job duties, he can no longer be apart of the Commission, but said he is available for them to call on him if they ever need his input for anything.  Bernie thanked him for his service to the Commission.
  • College Veterans Conference – Mary-Ann let the Commission know that UCONN is holding its first ever College Veterans Conference on April 9, 2011 in Storrs.
  • Handouts – Bernie distributed information to the Commissioners on verification guidelines for Veterans small businesses, and on fraudulent organizations soliciting donations for veterans - VSO.
  • Adjournment – Upon a motion by Mary-Ann, seconded by Paul, the meeting adjourned at 7:41 p.m.
